An 11-Year Old Student in Bataan, Mariveles Passed Away Due To Severe Dengue Months After Injected With Dengvaxia Vaccine

A grade 5 student is Mariveles, Bataan, passed away due to acute dengue in October last year, months after she was injected with Dengvaxia, the world’s first dengue vaccine, GMA News’ Chino Gaston detailed on 24 Oras on Wednesday.

Christine Mae de Guzman, who has no preceding history of dengue, initiated serious headache and fever on October 11, was hurried to the Bataan General Hospital on October 14, and passed away on October 15. She was injected the first Dengvaxia shot in April.

The Sisiman Elementary School student’s death certificate affirmed that she died because of disseminated intravascular coagulopathy and acute dengue.

The guardians of De Guzman, Nelson and Marivic, who believe her situation was triggered by the vaccine, are expecting for justice, mostly after Sanofi Pasteur, Dengvaxia’s manufacturer, acknowledged that the vaccine may provoke the disease in people who have not been distressed previously by dengue.

“Sana po ay makamit naming ang hustisya sa pagkawala ng anak ko,” Marivic stated. “Hindi naman po kasi masakitin ‘yung anak ko. First time palang po magkasakit ng ganun tapos dire-diretso po.”

The report stated Marivic and Nelson write a parental consent form before their child was given the anti-dengue vaccination.

The Volunteers against Crime and Corruption or VACC will submit De Guzman’s death in the class action lawsuit it expects to file against those included on the controversial P3.5 – billion dengue vaccination agenda of the Department of Health or DOH.

Previous to De Guzman’s case, the execution of an 11 year old student who supposedly passed away after injected with the anti-dengue vaccine was conducted up in a Senate blue ribbon committee investigation on the agenda in 2016.

Concurrently, student Amy Tamayo from Tarlac reportedly gets dengue despite receiving her 3rd dose of Dengvaxia last August.

“Sa DOH naman po, sana naman po naging aral na sa kanila and nangyari sa apo ko na dapat po hindi basta-basta gumagawa ng mga ganito siguro,” Amalia said, Amy’s grandmother.

The consent from prove by Amalia Tamayo only advised the parent of the free vaccination and none of the viable side effects of the dengue vaccine.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III state this case puts to question the effectiveness of Dengvaxia, which pledged to provide protection against dengue in the first 30 months.

“Well, lumalabas na hindi 30 months. Wala silang testing na ginawa. Bago ito binigay, wala silang test na ginawa to look for antibodies na magpapatunay na nagkaroon ng infection. Wala naman ganun, or negligence ng vaccine itself na hindi nakapagbigay ng proteksiyon,”
he stated.

The DOH, which discontinues the vaccination agenda, has begun monitoring all students in Bataan and other regions who were injected Dengvaxia. – Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
